Mission Statement: Safe Families - Strong Communities

We Aim To: Create communities in South Auckland where families experience Safe, Peaceful and Loving Relationships and Celebrate a total wellness in their families.

Kaupapa/Objectives:

* We believe that violence in any shape or form is unacceptable, and change of behavior is possible

* That it is every individual's right to live without the fear of violence and the reality of violence

* That it is a family (whanau), community (hapu) and societies (iwi) responsibility to ensure this right and to make a stand against violence

* That the incident of public violence is linked to violence by individuals, family (whanau) and is supported by SILENCE

* Violence is a learned attitude and behavior for dealing with certain situations and non-violent alternatives can be learned.

What we do?

* Meet monthly - first Thursday of each month

* We provide Family Violence training and Awareness Workshops

* We connect families to appropriate Family Violence Services

* We offer support & information to families affected by Family violence

* We can work with groups in their own setting to find realistic ways of positive pathways and peaceful relationships:

 * Community Groups
 * Marae

 * Schools
 * Workplace

* Constantly put down

* Isolated from family & friends

Teal Ribbon Campaign Nov 2nd - 8th 2009

SAFVPN promotes community participation in our annual Counties Manukau Family Violence Awareness Week and Teal Ribbon Campaign. Wearing this ribbon is a personal pledge that: Violence in any shape or form is unacceptable and realistic alternatives are possible.

A commitment to this begins with ME

This campaign runs in the first week of November as a lead up to the international White Ribbon Day and a lead into the busy and stressful period of the year - Christmas. It includes all types of Violence from Family Violence, Child Abuse, Partner Abuse and Elder Abuse.

By connecting families with their own local services prior to the busy season, communities will establish a relationship with the agencies annually as the agencies come out of their offices and into the community to meet the public and inform them of the support and resources available.

In 2008 we reached 12 communities of Counties Manukau, from Otahuhu to Pukekohe, connecting families to local support and offering resources and information on safe and healthy families and communities.

We look forward to reaching out again this year
